Put yourself in their place

Put yourself in their place

  • Have you ever seen an interview of a bank robber, a con artist, or a thief? They don’t always consider what they did wrong. Sometimes it could be their ego, but most often, they truly believed what they did was right and justified. No one thinks they are the villain. Even villain considers themselves the hero of their story.  They feel what they are doing is best for them and for others.

  • We all have a moral compass, and we shouldn’t assume that ours is the gold standard  to which everyone else should be judged. Everybody has reasons based on their circumstances, and we must learn their core ‘Why?’ because their actions and behavior are justified to them. That doesn’t mean you have to agree with what others are doing. Our job is to understand others enough to empathize with them, see where they’re coming from, and prepare ourselves accordingly.

  • So, acquire the skill of looking at things from a point of view other than your own.  It’s great to travel and get to know more cultures and people and understand their motivation. Nobody does wrong willingly, and nobody thinks they’re wrong—nobody. Be more tolerant  and understand others by being in their shoes. Go for compassion and empathy  instead of rage. It’s the best you can do of the situation.

But that’s just my take. Comment and share yours.
